Acceptance of Terms
Causal is owned and operated by Berry Street Research Group LLC ("Berry Street," "we," "us," or "our"), a limited liability company located in New York, New York. By registering for our beta waitlist, visiting our website, or using the Causal mobile application (collectively, the "Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Services.
1. No Medical Advice & FDA Disclaimer
CAUSAL IS NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE AND HAS NOT BEEN EVALUATED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA).
The Services, including health biometrics ingestion, check-in analysis, correlation models, and wellness benchmarks, are designed solely for educational, exploratory, and informational purposes. They are not intended, approved, or certified to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any medical condition, cardiovascular anomaly, sleep disorder, or physical illness.
You must not make any modifications to your medical regimens, prescription schedules, clinical therapy, or extreme physical training loads based on insights surfaced by Causal without direct, explicit consultation with a qualified medical physician. Reliance on any metric generated by Causal is at your own risk.
2. Third-Party Services & Availability
Causal uses Apple HealthKit when you grant permission, Firebase/Google Cloud for account and data storage, and Google Sign-In if you choose that sign-in method. By using these features:
- You acknowledge that Causal has no control over the accuracy or calibration of third-party sensors or Apple Health source data.
- Causal disclaims liability for data latency, sync failure, or metric calculations caused by external API outages, HealthKit permission changes, or sensor faults.
- You agree to comply with the terms that apply to any third-party service you use to access Causal.
3. Health Data Use Restrictions
Causal uses HealthKit, biometric, and check-in data only to operate the Services and provide personal wellness insights. Causal does not sell, rent, lease, broker, or use health data for advertising, marketing, resale, or unrelated data mining. You should not submit health data on behalf of another person unless you are authorized to do so.
4. User Conduct & Accounts
To access account-based features, you must use an account you own or are authorized to use. You agree not to manipulate check-in responses, attempt to access another person's data, or use the app to load corrupt data streams.
5. Intellectual Property
All branding, styling system specifications (Sunflower design system), layouts, codebases, and causal inference modeling scripts are the exclusive property of Berry Street Research Group LLC. You are granted a limited, non-transferable, revocable license to access our platform for personal use.
6. Limitations of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Berry Street Research Group LLC and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services or reliance on any biometric inference calculations.
7. Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles.
